Not knowing what to expect, and somewhat expecting to see a more third world, developing nation, we were surprised by what we discovered in this nation. We will definitely return.
You Never Know Who You Might Meet Along the Journey
There is something about connecting with people while “on the road” - you end up sharing stories, comparing notes, passing on tips and tricks you’ve learned, connecting the dots in your lives, and feeling enriched from the encounter. Keep your eyes and ears open and your heart willing to receive, and you’ll often find these wonderful treats as you journey.
Plastic Water Bottles, Rice Bowls, and Incense
We’ve wanted to learn at least a little about each of the main religions practiced here in Penang so, during the 7 weeks we’ve been here, we’ve made a point to visit houses of worship for Hinduisum, Budhism, Islam, and Taoism. One thing has been clear in all of these visits.
Penang Food Series, Part 2
The American short story writer extraordinaire and former citizen of our hometown Austin, William Sydney Porter (1862-1910), better known by his pen name, O. Henry, once wrote: “By nature and doctrines I am addicted to the habit of discovering choice places wherein to feed.” O. Henry’s palate would’ve had a party here in Penang!
Penang Food Series, Part 1
Who knew after leaving India that we would land smack dab in the middle of the epicurean universe? The island of Penang is just that: “Where All The World’s Foods Meet in One Place”.
Surprised By Penang

The Ubiquitous Stare
Work is halted, conversations are interrupted, family gatherings are paused….all to have a look at these strange white people who’ve suddenly appeared. We call it “The Ubiquitous Stare”
It’s a Pleasure to Meet You, India!

Moving Day on the “Slowporatory Trip”
“Moving Day” means either moving to different accommodations or moving to a new country! We’re also building a new vocabulary as we go on this “slowporatory” trip.
Bye-Bye Home Depot
Choosing to live abroad is saying “yes” to adventure, to broadening your perspective, to learning how to problem solve, to learning and growing, and so much more. But it’s also saying “yes” to sacrifices.
So HOW are we Doing This?
A lot of times when we tell someone what we're doing, they respond, "Oh, I would LOVE to do that!" And we say, "You can!", to which they almost always reply, "Nah. I don't think so." We want to encourage you that it IS possible! There are many ways to do it, and there are LOTS of people all over the world who are doing what we're doing or a variation of it.
So Why Global Nomads?
The decision to become global nomads was one based in a dream we’d both had in our hearts for several decades. The timing for our launch was very specific, and we had been planning it for years.
The First Stop Had to Be Indonesia
We knew this country that was near and dear to our hearts would be the best place to make the transition to this grand adventure.
