Sampai Jumpah, Bali
We’ve come to the end of our time in Bali. It has been rich and full. Connecting with old friends and making new ones. Relishing in unhurried hours of heart conversations. Lots of laughter. Surrounded by unparalleled beauty, God’s creation at its finest.
So grateful that Emily & Franklin could join us here and let us share in their visit to the OBGYN to get a sonogram and find out whether they’re being blessed with a boy or a girl. (We’ll let them share that news!)
We’ve soaked up the sun, witnessed Hindu rituals, slept under a canopy of stars, improved our language skills, learned Balinese history, and eaten our weight in gelato. We’ve experienced firsthand what happens if you have a moped accident in a small country town on Bali as Duane wiped out around a curve and banged up his leg, arm, ankle and ribs. Why anyone would ride a scooter without a helmet is beyond us. He smacked his head on the pavement pretty hard, testing the durability of the helmet he had rented (it did the job!) Visiting a dimly lit “emergency” clinic and watching a doctor tend to Duane’s large wounds with a flashlight and a small pad of gauze with hydrogen peroxide squirted on it then throwing all the soiled gauze into a small, overflowing, unmarked trashcan was quite the experience.
Skin rashes, bumps and bruises, sunburns, and other minor maladies have all been part of the Bali experience, but this is how we learn and figure out how to do life in a country not our own. In a couple of days we move to our next country, India, with hearts full of excitement and anticipation about what’s to come, but we will be carrying the mark of this special place and people we love so much, Bali.
Sampai jumpah, Bali. Om swastiastu.
